The National Institute for Health Specialties signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) of the USA on Tuesday October 26th 2021, to improve the medical competencies framework and enhance the quality of medical education in the UAE.
The MOU aims to provide access to the required expertise to support the development of professional standards, qualification framework for the residencies and fellow physicians, including the exchange of data and visits between the two parties to enhance the specialty programs quality and organize specialized training courses for resident and fellow physicians and practitioners. It also aims to share the best practices in implementing the accreditation and the assessments standards and systems to assure the delivery of quality professional exams to obtain the Emirati Board certificates.
The NIHS seeks to develop a uniform graduate medical education and specialty training system throughout the UAE in accordance with internationally recognized standards to achieve leadership and excellence in the health sector worldwide through its strategic partnerships. The ACGME is a private, non-profit, professional organization responsible for the accreditation of over 12,000 residency and fellowship programs spread-out over approximately 865 institutions that sponsor these programs in the United States. Residency and fellowship programs educate approximately 145,000 resident and fellow physicians in 157 specialties and subspecialties. The ACGME's mission is to improve health care and the general population health by assessing and enhancing the quality of resident and fellow physicians' education through advancements in accreditation and education.
